Dr. Gohar Homayounpour (a psychoanalyst and member of the International Psychoanalytic Association and the American Psychoanalytic Association) founded the Tehran Freudian Group in 2007. This group is also registered with the General Directorate of Welfare of Tehran (No. 54955) under the name “Tehran Psychoanalytic Thought Group”. Since the group’s inception in 2007, Dr. Gohar Homayounpour has served as its leader. Following that, Mr. Shahin Nowruzi took over in 2018 and served in that position until September 2022. Dr. Mahdiyeh Vazirian will lead the group for four years, from September 2022 to September 2026.
This group was formed to educate qualified individuals who are interested in psychoanalysis and analytical psychotherapy. In order to improve the level of health in society, people trained in this group offer analytical psychotherapy and individual and group psychoanalysis to adults, children, and teenagers. The three-part International Psychoanalytic Association model—personal analysis, theoretical seminars, and clinical supervision—serves as an educational foundation for this group.
It is noteworthy that the Tehran Freudian Group adheres to and supports the guidelines established by the International Psychoanalytic Association. The governing laws of Iran and associations pertaining to psychotherapy also serve as the foundation for the activities of this group. As a result, using licenses acquired from the appropriate national organizations will be the basis for conducting clinical operations.
